Description

Dedicated, self-motivated part-time ESL Teacher Assistant needed at IC Imagine Charter School in Asheville. Year-round school schedule. 


The ESL Assistant performs a variety of instructional, technical, and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher. They may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the teacher, meet the needs of LEP students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for LEP students. The ESL Assistant provides one-on-one assistance with linguistic, academic, and socio-cultural needs and may lead small group activities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists teacher in academic or language instruction for LEP students according to NC content standards
  • Assists teacher in supporting cultural adaptations for LEP students
  • Assists language minority families in locating community resources for the purpose of promoting parent effectiveness and student achievement
  • Provide supplemental instruction to ELLs under the direction of a classroom or ESL teacher
  • Assist ESL teachers or classroom teachers with documenting instructional services provided to ELLs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other support staff
  • Communicate with school personnel about group and student needs
  • Work cohesively in a team setting
  • Must maintain positive communication with students and teachers
  • Utilize a positive reinforcement behavioral system
  • Support a classroom environment of respect that fosters a positive climate for learning, equity, and excellence. 
  • Differentiate within instruction to meet the needs of all learners. 
  • Manage instructional time and student behavior. 
  • Attend professional development to increase content knowledge.
  • Assist teachers in organization of materials and classrooms.
  • Independently executing said activities.
  • Visibly demonstrate the IC Imagine mission throughout the school and greater community in a professional manner with the highest regard for children, families and colleagues. 
  • Follow the processes laid out in the faculty handbook, respond to emails in a timely manner, keep grades updated weekly, and correspond regularly with families with pertinent information for courses taught.
  • Will perform additional duties including, but not limited to lunch, arrival and dismissal supervision during non-instructional time, attending after school events and meetings, participating in enrollment activities leading up to and during the Open Enrollment period, and provide coverage for K-5 classrooms.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled in problem solving and decision making as well as observation, listening, and coaching
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Maintain effective working relationships
  • Possess strong time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload and multitask in a busy environment
  • Proficiency with GSuite

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum High School Diploma, some college preferred
  • Professional Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education K-6, preferred
  • 1 year of teaching experience, preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching and bending
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times
